Day 13
Sunday - July 29
Crossed through the fertile central valley of California, source of much of the country's produce, headed to Monterey and Steinbeck country. And, Oh Boy, is it Steinbeckian?! Browsed Fisherman's Wharf, got a lovely take-out lunch from the Cannery Row Deli which we consumed on a nearby bench near a public beach and just by a street musician playing a keyboard and enough other
hand-helds to sound like a combo. Hungry pigeons everywhere but, unlike their Ocean City cousins, these had the good taste not to poop on anyone. On the way to the Monterey Bay Aquarium we saw a rock just off shore covered with barking sea lions and lazy pelicans. Then to the highly regarded aquarium where we waited in line to wait in line to pay exorbitant admission fees. (Of course, cheapskate Rob thinks just about all entry fees are exorbitant.)
Then on north on Highway 101, through horrendous traffic for a Sunday afternoon. Over the Golden Gate bridge and on up to Sonoma where Bill and Caryn graciously held dinner for us. Wonderful salad, bread and, of course, wine.
